4 Stars Very Nice
Bought this TV through Amazon, order and delivery were as expected - very good.
The TV is great with HD programming, but I will say SD broadcasts are not very good on my set. I have not purchased my Blu Ray player as yet, nor my sound system, but the audio is ok from the set - not nearly as bad as I was expecting based on the reviews. Overall I am please with the set, the setup menu’s are intuitive, the info link is nice, and I continue to receive top notch purchasing experiences from Amazon.
One drawback, I typically only view about 1 hour of Television a day, but since I’ve received this set it is hard to pull myself away from it. I know, so why the heck did I buy it?… I love sports, and sports in HD is simply awesome. Oh, and the food channel, be careful, looking at that stuff in HD can be fattening!
5 Stars Love it, love it, love it
I initially wanted a much smaller LCD model, but my wife talked me into the 50″ plasma, and I gotta say I’m glad she did! The color is incredibly accurate right out of the box, and it’s easy to customize the calibration to whatever settings work best for your room. The anti-glare screen isn’t perfect, but it helps quite a bit. The black levels are great, resulting in very detailed, almost 3-D pictures. Even the speakers are much better than I expected! There’s no ghosting, no motion blur, no pixelation of any kind on a proper HD source. It’s a dream! I couldn’t be happier with this set, especially for the price!
5 Stars Best value, incredible TV!
The Samsung plasma 650 series 6 is an incredible machine. It looks great. We mounted in the corner of our room and it really brings the room up to a new standard. Although we probably would have gone with a touch of black if it were available, the touch of red doesn’t look bad. In fact its probably looks better than black. The plastic/glass filter on the front makes the unit look sleek. Additionally we didn’t know but the tv does come with a built in ethernet LAN port which was only advertised on the next model up. So I don’t know why they don’t advertise this part of it.
Great machine for the price!
5 Stars Great TV
I purchased this set after looking at the Panasonic 80U, 85U and 800U. I went to a few bricks and mortars stores to see each of these sets and I couldn’t see why some people rated the 800U higher than this Samsung. The colors on this set are vibrant, the blacks are deep, and the TV is an absolute joy to view. Other reviews have dinged this set because of the audio. However, most people that purchase this set are going to do what I have done, and that is to pair this set with a home theater system. When that’s done, the audio is no longer an issue. The only thing I still need for this set to make it complete is a Blu-Ray player, which I hope to get in the near future.
5 Stars OUTSTANDING!
After 6 weeks of research, I’d decided on plasma and narrowed it down to Panasonic or Samsung. Circuit City had the perfect side by side setup and the Samsung (w/TOC) looked more expensive but cost less. Uncalibrated pictures can’t be compared but after playing with picture settings on both, it was apparent that the Samsung had way more potential so the Samsung PN50A650 won.
I ordered from Amazon and took delivery 1 week later. In that week of waiting, I also bought a Samsung BD-P2550 Blu-Ray player and a Denon AVR-1909 receiver. With my existing Mirage Nanosat 5.1 speakers, I set up the system. I plugged an HDMI cable into the freshly unboxed Samsung while the delivery guys plugged its power cord in and put batteries in the remote. I fired up “The Dark Night” Blu-Ray for them. I think they were as impressed as me.
The player is capable of Netflix Streaming and Pandora so I signed up for those services. Both work great and the TV picture is jaw dropping after some quick calibration setup with a free HD pattern disk (AVSHD 709) I burned from a file @ avsforum.com. It didn’t run nearly as hot (temperature) after calibration and likely uses much less power.
We couldn’t be happier with this setup and think that every component outperforms its respective price tag. The service menu on the TV says we have nearly 400 hours on it (in 2 months) and we have no complaints or regrets with any of the components.
I’d never made a large purchase from Amazon and have no reason not to buy big ticket items from them in the future. For it’s price, it really is an outstanding HDTV.
