LG 37LG50 37 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Displays HDTV programs in full 1920 x 1080p resolution for a more detailed picture.Unlike other sensors which can only sense brightness of ambient light, LG’s “Intelligent Sensor” uses 4,096 sensing steps to evaluate its surroundings. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the LG processes picture quality elements including brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and white balance. The result is a picture optimized for it’s surroundings, more pleasing to watch and which can also save up to 50% in power consumption. The AV Mode optimizes the picture into Cinema, Sports, and game Mode according to the video and audio content. The viewer has the ability to quickly choose the correct mode for the picture they are viewing.Automatically enhances and amplifies the sound of human voice frequency range to help keep dialog audible when background noise swells. This TV contains the detailed calibrations necessary for professional certification by the Imaging Science Foundation. The resulting ISF “day” and “night” modes will then be accessible by the user to experience the best their LG HDTV has to offer.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Takes a little while to smooth out
After 3 years my Plasma died. I was able to put this lcd on the same mount and it looks less obtrusive and is much lighter. It takes a little while for the picture to look less pixilated. I do not have the HDMI connector, since I have nothing that has that type of output, but with RGB components and digital cable it looks much richer than the plasma, and it doesn’t get as hot.

The only negative is, I called LG’s customer service and I was appalled at how unhelpful they were. I sure hope I don’t need customer service for this TV.

4 Stars Does it’s job, the second time around…
While I didn’t buy it via Amazon (sorry Amazon people), I purchased through a brick-and-mortar strictly because I haven’t converted to making big purchases online. I bought this thing for two reasons:

1. I hadn’t had a TV for over a year, I was overdue.

2. Picture quality. I searched high and low and stared at many, many HDTVs, in so many different stores, so much so that my eyes hurt. This was the best one (within the size I was looking for, 32-37″ as this is what space I had/have allocated in my apartment). Picture clarity is key! That’s the whole point of HD, correct?

So, first thing’s first, I received a dud. Yes, a dud. It was working no more than a day before the brain of the TV just died on me (don’t ask for technical terms, it’s the part that makes the screen display a moving picture as opposed to lines moving across the screen). I don’t know if anyone else ran into this problem, but it was a tad annoying. I do believe, however, based on many other reviews, that I was the unlucky one to receive a defective one.

The part was replaced, and now it’s all good :). Clarity is there, haven’t had any problems since (I’m on month three), and did I mention I love it?

Downside: don’t sit too close, your eyes will definitely hurt. Quality is just that sharp–at least on HD channels.

Oh how I cannot wait until Feb ‘09 rolls around when the rest of the channels hop on board. My life will be very close to complete :).

5 Stars Great bang for the buck
I bought this (steady now) to be the neighborhood’s biggest photo frame. I know… It’s decadent. But remember, this is Texas and everything is bigger. I’m a professional photographer and don’t get to see all the thousands of images I shoot every year except in newsprint or magazines or websites - none of which really does them justice.

Right now my LG 37″ TV is cycling through a Metallica series I shot at Ozzfest this year and it’s gorgeous. I was looking for a unit that had a memory stick option or USB port where I could load in my images and let the built in software run a slide show for me.

It does this seamlessly and the quality is gorgeous. Vivid, great contrast, beautiful colors.

It was a breeze to setup, not too heavy, and a quality piece of equipment.

I liked it so much I bought a 2nd one for use at art shows where I exhibit - a LOT easier than lugging in a bunch of easels and prints…

Absolutely love this LG.

The service was great. I had originally ordered from another vendor, but they were out of stock for weeks. I cancelled my order and ordered here. The service was very fast and the TV is fantastic! Friends and relatives are very impressed with this TV!
