The VIORE LC32VF55 is the 32″ 1080p (Full-HD) LCD Television. The TV has 1920 x 1080 native resolution for Full-HD (1080p) performance and wide-screen (16:9 aspect ratio) for a complete home theater experience. The super high picture quality has been realized by VIORE engineering with high brightness for a vivid and brilliant picture and with high contrast for deeper blacks and brighter whites. The ATSC TV tuner is integrated for over-the-air HDTV broadcast reception. 2 HDMI inputs are provided so that the digital signals for both video and audio will be transferred without any degradation from Blu-ray Disc Player, DVD Player, Game Player, or Cable/Satellite Box. The VGA port is provided so that you can use the TV as a computer monitor. Comonent Video, Composite Video, and S-Video inputs are available.

4 Stars Very good for the price
I got this TV at a very low price. We have a very big TV in the living room, but this was to replace the tv in my bedroom. We have my boyfriend extra PS3 hooked up to it. it is not bad and it is great for the price. so far so good.

1 Stars Save your Money
I own a Viore 50 inch Dlp widescreen hdtv that I have had for almost three years now. At the time it seemed like a good deal but recently I have been left very upset by this company. The quality of the tv has always been lackluster but I just chalked it up to the fact that it was a dlp. The tv has always acted strange though; it will “freeze up” and switch channels by itself and eventually turn off. Recently, about every 30 minutes or so, it will reset the picture size, picture mode, and picture details back to the original default settings. So every 30 minutes i have to manually change it back. I contacted Viore 3 times via email and have yet to recieve any type of response. I tried calling this evening but I had a 42 minute wait ahead of me so I hung up. I will try to get another response and if I do I will revise this review, but so far I am very unhappy with viore, mostly because of their service, but also because of their product.

3 Stars soso
First review I have ever written. Got TV on black friday for $100 less than it is now. Picture quality is overall good except for faces. It adds pink hue to faces when they are viewed at certain angles. Everything else is okay but this is pretty annoying

4 Stars Impressive For the Price
We are using this unit as a monitor at 1080i on cable television and 1080p from a Bluray player. The image on the screen is very sharp and clear. No ghosting has been noticed on a wide selection of input media.

All of out input sources are connect using HDMI. We have not used the component video. Both video and audio are connected properly through each HDMI interface. It is nice to only need only one cable to a single connector for each input device in use.

The sound system in the set is adequate for a 10 x 15 foot room. Unlike some sets we looked at locally, this unit has the sound well synchronized with the video. Even so, I suspect that our next purchase will be a sound system. For now, it will do quite nicely.

The set detected changes in the input video from the HDMI interfaces nicely. The feed was defaulted to 720p on the Bluray player and it worked without problems. After switching the player to 1080p, the set quickly adjusted itself and we were ready to watch some movies.

Probably the weakest link for this unit is the remote control ‘clicker.’ The on-screen set up and configuration seem to be easy to follow and work well. It is the ‘clicker’ itself that needs some improvement. The plastic work and feel of the buttons makes us think that it will not last as long as the TV.

So as our title implies, we feel that this is a very nice HD unit for the price.

3 Stars Not bad for the price.
This is my very first review on Amazon and this is also the first TV I’ve purchased from Amazon.

Like others, I purchased this Viore HDTV over the Black Friday weekend sale. It was on sale for $388. After a few days, I was contacted by a PFS (Pilot Freight Services) to schedule a delivery day for the TV. Originally, it was suppose to arrive on a Saturday. Then they call to notify me Saturday evening that they had forgotten about my TV and it was left on the dock. I was disappointed, but I do understand that mistakes happen. So I had to reschedule the delivery for another day. They told me that they deliver 7 days a week and the delivery window is from 10am to 2pm.

As for the Viore HDTV itself, I give it a 3 Star rating. The back of the Viore sticks out further than I originally thought. Measuring it from the side, it’s almost 5 inches. It still can’t be compared to a DLP of course. For $388, it’s not bad and it’s 1080p! It’s still an upgrade for my bedroom and it replaces my 27″ Westinghouse that had no HDMI inputs and it was only 720p. This Viore has 3 HDMI inputs and that’s good enough for me. So I decided to hook up my Xbox 360 and PS3 to the HDMI inputs. I adjusted the colors and settings on the Viore and everything turned out great when running a game or Blu-ray movie. I don’t see a Backlight option in the settings, so that was a bit of a letdown. I would like to add that the Xbox 360 needs to complete the “handshake” on the HDMI. When my Xbox 360 was on, I decided to switch it from HDMI to TV. As soon as I switched it back to HDMI, my 360 restarted. This however did not happen with my PS3. So just to warn you gamers out there, I don’t want anyone to lose their progress when switching to another source.

Please keep in mind that this HDTV does have a built-in ATSC tuner. So if you have basic cable through Comcast and you use a DTA (Digital Transport Adapter) box, having a built-in tuner no longer requires a DTA box. You will not only get more channels, but you will now be able to view some HD channels as well. So far I’ve noticed a slight “lag” when switching from channel to channel. At times, everything would freeze for a good couple seconds and I won’t be able to access anything on the remote, not even the volume controls. It gets annoying when you’re trying to see what’s on.

To recap, this Viore doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it’ll get the job done. Whether you plan to use it just to watch cable TV, play games, or even watch Blu-rays. You can’t expect too much for $400. I’m not sure about the longevity of this TV, but I hope it’ll at least last 5 years. If anyone is looking for a decent 32″ 1080p HDTV, this is it. It’s hard to find a similar HDTV for the same price. Hope this review has helped.

12/31/09 Update: With a few more tweaking of the picture settings, I do notice a slight difference between this 32″ 1080p Viore compared to my old 27″ 720p Westinghouse. It’s about noticing the small details. I’m a huge football fan, so I watch it on HD and I play Madden on my Xbox 360. The grass on the field really pops up and so does the detail on the players’ jerseys. Overall, it’s hard to make out any differences between HDTVs with the naked eye. I also want to add that I always bump up the Contrast.

As for the lag issue that I’m having while switching channels, I noticed that it’s easier to check your favorite channels on the settings and just switch the channels from there. You have to do a little more, but at least there’s no lag or freezing issues.

4 Stars Fantastic picture, BUTT!!!
Best picture I ever have seen in a flat panel compared even to my Pioneer elite, but my biggest concern was these halos that would show up around people or objects moving and this is not a fast movement problem. I have heard that this is a 240hz problem for the motion blur. I did notice that if I turned off the motion blur the halos went away. This kind of defeats having motion blur settings and feature. These halos are very annoying also the picture viewing area seems narrower than most LCD sets. Returned the set and went for the PN58B860 plasma, which has a great picture too! I have also been reading some other problems showing up on this TV. Great picture but these little problems make for a bad combo.

5 Stars Excellent picture, sound
The picture and sound on this sleek Samsung is excellent. We actually feel like we are on the set watching the actual filming of the movies. Best pic and price from Amazon. White glove delivery and set up was great.

5 Stars WOW - Better than my high expectations.
I am a bit of a gadget guy and a techy. As such, I was not expecting to be surprised with this purchase. I knew the features, I knew the details, I saw this in stores. I was surprised at 2 things.

The picture looks much better in my house then it did in the store! It has better depth and the color/tones are fantastic. Both are much better then I experienced in the stores. The color/tones was the main reason I was leaning towards Sony but the bightness of this set was needed for my enviroment. So I was surprised that I got the brightness I needed and the fantastic color that I wanted.

Additionally, I was please to find that Samsung opened up all of the A/V settings so you can seriously adjust the picture to suit the envirmoment and the types of viewing you will do. {I have a lot to learn on this aspect. My previous Sony you had to go into a special mode for those settings. I never bothered}.

A shout out to the white gloves service. They were simple, effective, and quick. They brought it in, unpackaged it, connected it, tested (with me observing) and were gone after cleaning up after themselves.

I installed this on the wall myself using the Samsung Ultra-slim mounting kit. This kit was as easy as hanging a 50lb picture. The kit also includes a special movable “leg” that allows you to tilt the TV out from the wall to make connections. It worked great.

Bring on the remainder of Football season!

5 Stars No complaints so far - the image is STUNNING
Just picked one up from Sears this afternoon. Paid $2,600 with the 10% Sears card discount. Replaced a 62″ Toshiba DLP. Compared it to the 8500 and didn’t see the value in spending another $1K. Also compared it to the Sony XBR9 and the Samsung did it for me.

Brought it home and had it running in 15 minutes. No problems at all. I must say the colors are just sick. I’m watching the Boise State-Nevada game on ESPN through Cox Digital Cable (Cox STB connected through an HDMI cable) and the ‘blue’ of the Boise State uniforms and helmets is just unbelievable. Details of the field and the sidelines are intense. I can see the paint chips from the ’stick’ marks on the players’ helmets. I agree with other posts regarding the 3D appearance. The image just pops out. SImply amazing.

I’ve tried. I’ve really tried to find the problems with the spotlights in the corners. No luck. Perhaps the problems relate to older models. Perhaps it’s a firmware fix. There’s no doubt Samsung is having QC problems along with customer service issues. If I were experiencing the spotlights or random source selection or defective features that others have experienced, I would be just as upset as they must be. But this unit is beautiful and I am fortunate…so far.

As for those complaining about the speakers, I disagree. No, they do not compare to 5.1 or 7.1 systems, but they are more than adequate for ‘the basics’. I do plan to purchase a home theater.

I picked up the extra warranty from Sears based on the comments from other posters. I plan on watching A LOT of TV over the next 30 days as the box is still in the garage. If I experience the QC problems it’s going back.

Overall, I recommend it. Best of luck to those with problems.

4 Stars Slim Mount is not so great if you plug your TV in behind the TV
Everything about the TV so far is great! I am not convinced I needed the 240Hz, though. My only complaint is that when using the slim mount that was designed for this TV, there is not enough clearance behind the TV to plug it in without installing a recessed recepticle. Very poor planning on Samsung’s part! A real ‘bonehead’ move for a mount that retails at $250!!!

4 Stars Vizio review
I have had thw Vizio HD television for about a month. When I got it, I didn’t know what to expect, because this was my first time I have purchased a HD television. I was pleasantly surprised at the picture quality and ease to use it. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced 1080P 26 inch HD television I recommend this model.

3 Stars Input Problems
We recently purchased this tv and it was a great value for the price. However, the remote control was broken and the tv does not have a way to switch inputs manually. Vizio’s customer service was very helpful and is sending us a new remote, but even the rep was surprised that there was no way to switch inputs without a remote. I hope that Vizio changes this design flaw.

5 Stars Outstanding TV Cable and Sat.
Got this TV today and had it set up in a few minutes. Have it hooked to both Cable and Satellite, both good, but the 1080 on Sat. is really great. Had no problems setting it up with my DVD player and has excellent picture - no problems as one reviewer reported. Have had another Vizio for 2 years and this newest model is much better in many ways (just smaller). We are using it as a second TV for the bedroom. Will be replacing the old analog TV in our RV with this model - it will fit perfectly and if it works as good there, will provide a great pix on the road.

5 Stars GREAT BUY ON 1080P HDTV AT $318.00
GREAT BUY AT 318.00 FROM SAMS CLUB AND VARIOUS SITES ( on 12/06/09 and second purchase on 12/14/09) I been shopping extensively for the last 2-3 yrs. trying to learn and understand the flat screens. TRUST ME! THIS IS A GREAT PRICE FOR A TV WITH 50,000:1 CONTRASTING HDTV 1080P. I have found when you go down to smaller screens you end up with 720p and 800:1 contrasting and if you are lucky may be 3000:1. THIS IS 1080P ,8MS ,60HZ HDTV WITH 50,000:1. GREAT PICTURE, WATCHED A COUPLE FOOTBALL GAMES to see the action speed GREAT NO PROBLEM

5 Stars Outstanding Performance and Value
I purchased a Vizio (VL260) 26″ HD TV 2 weeks ago for my living room. Since installing it I have been very impressed by the overall picture quality. The screen is bright, images are sharp and detailed, and black levels appear satisfyingly deep. In fact, even after lowering the brightness level to 50% and color saturation to 40%, the display still looks quite good. The screen loses some brightness as your viewing angle moves away from dead center. But, it’s not very noticeable until you move to a fairly large angle which is not a problem for me. The audio through the TV’s front speakers is satisfactory, but I prefer to pipe it into my stereo receiver through the optical audio jack. This greatly improves audio liveliness and realiam. I am very happy with my purchase and think it’s a great value for the money.

5 Stars There’s no need to pay a lot for an HDMI cable
[Anyone remembers the old "I am not going to spend a lot for this muffler" commercial?]

Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for, basically the same thing, let’s look at one of our top of the line offers in premium HDMI, Monster HDMI 1000HD Ultra-High Speed HDMI Cable (2 meters) and do a quick comparison.

For a lot less, the BLUE Advanced supports the HDMI 1.3a/b standard. Any HDMI 1.3 cable can carry up to 10.2 Gbit/s. Hmmm… I suppose the Monster is much better, right? Well… it “guarantees a certified cable bandwidth of 10.2″ Okay, but the Monster also supports “x.v.Color, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD”. It turns out that, all of the above, and more, are part of the HDMI 1.3 specs and they are fully supported by every cable that complies to the standard and can be had for about 95% less in the Premium Gold. The expensive brand presentation simply enumerates the HDMI 1.3 specs as if it being HDMI 1.3 compliant was a really big deal. It is not a big deal. Even a cable that costs 95% less is HDMI 1.3 compliant.

My suggestion: if you think that the proponents of the expensive brand have a point when they claim that their product is a lot more durable, buy TWO Blue Advanced wires and still pay significantly less than half of what you would pay for one of the expensive ones.

My personal experience: I’ve never paid ‘a lot’ for an HDMI cable because it makes no sense to pay more. I took home one of the ‘expensive’ ones once because the salesman promised to take it back if I wasn’t amazed by the difference. It made zero difference and I returned it.

5 Stars Great cable at the right price
I researched HDMI cables and found varied pricing locally as well as online shopping. With some research here and on Ebay I opted for this Cable. This cable performs excellently for the money. Some of what I learned is that the cable should be shielded so as not to pick up distortion from any surrounding cables, this includes other av, power, and the like. Since my Samsung is wall hung I didn’t want any annoying cables between my DVR and DVD player. I used this 6′cable in the wall between an upper and a lower HDMI outlet. There are also other cables for sound and AV that occupy this same space so I needed the cable to be shielded. I also purchased two 3′ from this same supplier figuring that the quality would be the same. The end result is a crystal clear HD picture with no distortion and hidden cables.

5 Stars No longer Blue because I got a 6 foot BLUE!!
My HDMI cable makes my 40′ Samsung sing!! The High Definition is Higher than anything Websters Dictionary could ever come up with! The price was right, the shipment speed was unbelievable and my Samsung and I are just as happy as if we were both in our right minds!!

With the introduction of the LC32LE700UN, Sharp combines its legendary AQUOS LCD panel technology with a newly developed, proprietary Full Array LED backlight system to create picture quality that is second to none. The LC32LE700UN illustrates Sharp’s LCD technology leadership while also demonstrating its LED engineering advantages. Sharp’s Ultra Brilliant LED system illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels and enables significant environmental benefits such as longer life expectancy, no heavy metals and lower power consumption. At the same time, the new XGen LCD Panel utilizes an ingeniously devised pixel design that permits more light to pass through even while minimizing light leakage, with the result being the deepest black levels that AQUOS has ever achieved. Overall, the LC32LE700UN shows that with Sharp, it’s not just LED… it’s AQUOS LED.

5 Stars Buy It
This is a wonderful TV. The picture is outstanding and the Home Theater Store in Houston not only came up with an outstanding price but excellent service. Try to buy from this store. They are the best.

Yes, the tuner is a little slow but 99% of us are going to use this set with HDMI sources like a HD cable or Satellite box - right? No flaws in the display but you have to open the little door on the remote and find the A/V mode that suits your environment. This set has a huge number of “knobs to turn” as far as setting up the picture so be careful and find the mode and settings that you need. Once you get it set - it will blow you away.

Yes, the sound isn’t what you got out of the 250# “console” TV that you just replaced. It has small speakers because it’s a flat panel TV. They are all that way. So stop complaining and go buy yourself a little 5.1 channel sound system that has an optical input. Hook it to the optical output of this set and the Cable or Sat box (see below) and it will be the best show you have ever heard or seen. Better yet, go buy yourself one that has a DVD upconvert or Blue Ray DVD player in it. The LG LHT854 on Amazon is a good example (for less than $200). Buy your optical and HDMI cables here on Amazon too and save a lot of $$. All the hype you read about certain cables being better is wrong. They don’t need to be gold or start with “M”. Speaker cables don’t need to be big, fat and hard to work with. Unless you are running 2000 watts or more, 18 or 16 gauge wire is just fine. It’s all digital data so there is no way the optical or HDMA cable can effect the quality of the sound or video. Be sure to connect your optical sound cable from your cable or Sat box directly to your sound system so you don’t pick up a delay from the TV processing it. IF your sound system has only one optical input, buy an optical splitter/combiner on Amazon for a couple of dollars and combine the optical sources from the TV and cable or Sat box. This all works.

Sharp has taken the most appropriate road on LED backlighting in my view, simply replace the florescent system with proven technology that was developed for the laptop industry by leaders like Apple. It’s very bright and even.

Since writing the above review, I have become even more sold on this product. Sharp has a fairly small market share in this field so they try hard to support their users. They offer a program called Aquos Advantage. It includes 3 mo.of warranty extension and a newsletter with info on using their products. It also includes a REAL help line you can call to get help if you don’t understand something or can’t make a feature work. If you are new to HDTV this may be of value to you. They also have a Facebook page and are very responsive through that site. The bigger manufactures may have these contacts as well but Sharps people seem to care about each customer.

The other thing I have noticed is the quality of the graphics engine. I connected my 3 year old standard def (480P) DVD player to the set using the “component” connection and the picture is as good or better than from an HDMI-connected Up-convert player. This indicates that the graphics engine in this set is outstanding.

When you get yours, open the little door on the bottom of the remote control and check out the different preset video modes. You will find them very helpful as you try different sources or types of material.

3 Stars Great value if you can ignore its flaws.
Considering the technologies packed into this tv, its one of the better value among its class, if you can live with some of its flaws.

Positives: Very, very good picture quality after calibration. Blu-rays look especially stunning. Deep black, and very good black details.

Neutral: Slow tuner, changing analog and digital channels takes at least a couple of seconds. Average input lag. Using Guitar Hero 3 lag calibration tool, I was able to get 48 milisec in Game mode, and between 90 - 130 milisec in other modes.

Negative: Flashlighting. My tv came with 2 large spots, the size of my palm each. Reducing the backlight helps somewhat, but they’re clearly visible during dark scenes such as the cave scenes of Iron Man blu-ray.

Some recent Sharp panels had banding issues. This Genx panel supposedly corrected this problem. However, I’m disappointed to find out that it is still present at least on my tv.

I have an inch wide, faint verticle band on the left side of the screen. I didn’t detect this initially until watching the oil field burning scene in Baraka. Subsequently I noticed it came up during watching the US open, and Master and Commander. I can conclusively confirm that the banding is there with my tv when displaying a solid green jpeg. Again this banding is quite faint and very hard to detect, but once I did it’s very hard for me to ignore.

4 Stars Great Picture. Terrible Sound.
I was in desperate need of a 1080p 32″ HDTV that would fit into the existing entertainment cabinet in my living room, which is exactly 31″ wide. You’d be amazed at how difficult it is to find a 32″ LCD that meets that requirement. Most are around 31.5″, which is very close but just wouldn’t fit.

Long story short: The set has gorgeous picture quality. No complaints at all about that. Unfortunately, the speakers are extremely tinny and just plain awful. The limited audio controls in the setup menu allow you to adjust treble and bass. I wound up pulling treble almost all the way to the bottom to temper the scratchy highs, and then nudging bass up a bit. But don’t turn the bass up too high, or the speakers will distort during loud noises. The best I can get it still sounds far worse than the 20 year-old standard-def set that this is replacing. This TV really requires the use of a separate audio system. In my case, that means I’m going to have to find a soundbar that will also fit my cabinet. I hadn’t planned on that.

The television is fairly easy to set up. My only disappointment there is that the set only offers a 4:3 pillarbox mode on standard-def input signals. HD input signals are locked to 16:9. Because the upconverting DVD/Blu-ray player I plan to use with this TV doesn’t offer a pillarbox mode either, I’m going to have to train my wife to set the player for 480p output whenever she wants to watch her beloved Gilmore Girls DVDs, and then set it back to 1080p afterwards. Or else she’ll have to watch them stretched, which neither of us finds acceptable. That’s going to be a big nuisance (with a long learning curve, undoubtedly). Why don’t TV manufacturers enable full aspect ratio control on both SD and HD signals?

The set’s a little expensive. But, again, gorgeous picture. I’m happy with the purchase overall, despite these caveats.

4 Stars Good Picture But Dark
We had a service rep from Sharp come out to look at the tv because the picture was so dark. He changed the display settings but otherwise said there was nothing that he could do. So I was curious what the electronic big box store had there displays set on. Basically the same thing: BACKLIGHT +14, CONTRAST +30, BRIGHTNESS 0, TINT 0, SHARPNESS +10. The salesperson at the big box store said that they have to reset all their display TVs higher than the factory settings because the pictures are dark. Huh(?) So I don’t know. We like the sharpness of the picture for most TV that we watch, but some night seens on this TV are hard to make out because they are too dark. Turning up the brightness just washes out the day seens.

5 Stars No flashlighting, No banding. GREAT VALUE.
It’s been about a month now owning this TV and I am generally very happy with my purchase. In almost all aspects its just a wonderful TV and I think it’s certainly a no brainer in the current LED market. Here’s what I’ve found out about my new Sharp TV:

Pros:

It’s got the blacks you want. Plain and simple. Definitely impressive stuff compared to my other two LCD’s in the house.

Nothing dead, nothing stuck, no flashlighting, and no banding. Another reviewer mentioned these problems but from what I have experienced and what I have heard from others this is a near non existent problem.

Deep customization for adjusting hue, saturation, tint etc etc allowing for really fine tuning. Personally this has been more of a con but its only because I’m too cheap to pay for calibration.

Great, vibrant colors in general with a picture that has “Pop”.

Cons:

The included remote really isn’t that great. I don’t enjoy the buttons themselves nor the layout. Of the Phillips, Sanyo, and Toshiba’s I have used recently I would say this isn’t the worst but not as nearly as good as the Toshiba’s. Whatever, not much of a con but it’s true. You can always use a universal.

As good as the colors are…your gonna need some calibrating to get this one right. I am still trying to get what I want out of this guy but I’m positive it’ll work out in the long run. Mainly it’s an issue with flesh tones.

The speakers are honestly pretty poor. Even compared to my Phillips and Sanyo LCD’s these speakers just have a bit of a tinny sound. Not a huge deal but this is where I have knock half a star off on my overall review.

No matter what, this is a winning product. Highly recommended…especially in the 32″ market. GREAT VALUE. ~4.5 STARS / 5

4 Stars An excellent alternative to an HTPC
I just got my Egreat EG-R1 through a local shop.

Some feedback…

I use an external Buffalo 250GB USB HDD formatted to NTFS.

It works with .mp4 h264, .rmvb, .ogm, .avi, .mkv, divx, xvid encoded video files.

It even worked with .wav audio. In one (out of two) .mp4 h264 file, seems the subtitles where being displayed out of sync, that is not the case when played on my HTPC. The PQ however was excellent specially with the .mkv files at the shop’s HDTV.

However, was not happy with the PQ (looked like a pixelplus enhanced image - yuck) of that same .mp4 h264 file when displayed at the shop’s HDTV, but at home it looks excellent on an old CRT TV though via composite. My HTPC rendered that same file beautifully on my HDTV.

At home, this same problematic .mp4 file (PQ and subtitle problem) has been rendered perfectly using the EG-R1 and my HDTV. I didn’t change anything (firmware).

On a quick .avi (paused video frame) test at the same timecode using my HDTV, EG-R1 (via component, HDMI), HTPC (via DVI-VGA), seems EG-R1 component was giving me the best PQ (more natural) followed closely by the EG-R1 HDMI then the HTPC via DVI-VGA, go figure. Seems I need to adjust my HTPC settings.

On another quick test .mp4 h264 (paused video frame) test at the same time code, the EG-R1 HDMI gave the best and sharpest image, followed closely by the HTPC DVI-VGA then a far third by EG-R1 component.

The EG-R1 might have some issues with .ogm-xvid files. When a scene pans from say left to right…it sort of skips (a video stutter if you like), but the audio is fine. Watching it makes me dizzy, it is noticeable. The same file works fine on an HTPC. Sometimes, you would need to load the video twice inorder for audio to work.

It doesn’t look like an internal drive (2.5″ or 3.5″) can fit in due to the large heat sink inside the unit.

The unit does get hot…not sure if additional cooling is needed.

Overall I am satisfied with the EG-R1 (almost bought a generic/unknown brand HDD player at another local shop for the about same price that couldn’t even work well with an external USB HDD).

I just hope it doesn’t burn-out from the heat

I also like the fact you can adjust the subtitle font size and color, and choose audio/subtitle languages via the remote.

If you decide to upgrade the firmware like I did, just download it from Egreat, extract it, and put the .img in the root directory of your USB device. Go to setup/system, do the upgrade twice (first time nothing happens), the unit will take over from there.

EDIT Nov 20:

I have tried using the EG-R1’s coaxial and HDMI to my receiver and 720p/1080i projector. I must say, it gave an excellent AQ and PQ. I also like the fact that extremely long filenames are displayed by the EG-R1, it scrolls them automatically from left to right instead of concatenating them. It also has a preview, just highlight the video file while still in the select menu, and the highlighted file is played by the EG-R1 on a smaller window next to it.. neat feature. So far, from the tests I have made, I would say the EG-R1 has trouble playing only less than 1% of all the videos I have collected for the past 3-4 years and I have about 2+Terra Bytes worth. It also played the DVD backups I have made using DVD decrypter, all you need is to play the .IFO file. I can also confirm that it did not work with .AVI files encoded using FFDS. The video files I have for testing are no larger than 720p 4.5GB, so I cannot confirm how well the EG-R1 would work with extremely large 1080p 10-30GB video files.

To Egreat makers: The case, though made of nice black aluminum, really looks like an electronics project for a high school, and I don’t know if this would work, but what would it take to upload an existing codec that someone made that does all formats (like klite codec) into an Egreat’s flash memory for it to work as well as an HTPC?

I am [still] very satisfied with the EG-R1 despite the minor shortcomings. Good value for the money.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great deal, phenomenol picture quality
I just purchased this tv last week and although it wasn’t 120HZ i just couldn’t justify the extra couple hundred dollars just to get that one last feature.

Pretty easy to set up…well, my dad set it up LOL! We tinkered with the tint, contrast, brightness setting for about 5 minutes to get the look we wanted b/c those factory default settings are bunk. As soon as it was good to go we flipped to an HD channel and watched a football game with such mind blowing clarity I swear it was better than being at the game.

I love this tv, if I could I would marry it and have it’s 19 inch portable babies. Ok, not really but you know what I’m saying. I just wish ALL my HD channels were 1080 b/c now that I have a great tv i can really tell the difference between 480, 720, and 1080.

The only downside is the picture quality is so good I don’t like watching my old DVDs in 480 anymore and now I’m dying to buy a Blue-Ray so I can get the maximum impact of the sharpness and clarity.

2 Stars If you plan to use the TV for XBOX/PS3, this is NOT the TV for you!!
I purchased this TV to replace a 42″ LCD Philips TV that I have and really dislike. For one, I think Philips makes junk. The tv has horrible sound quality, the cabinet is unattractive, the HDMI engine sometimes is tempermental and needs to be unplugged to reset, and Philips customer service is among the worst. Needless to say, I was anxious to get rid of the Philips and go with the Sharp. Also, I wanted to upgrade from 720p and 1080i to a full 1080p.

Folks, this Sharp TV had HORRIBLE picture quality on the PS3 and XBOX. I tried numerous settings for the contrast, sharpness, brightness, et cetera. I experienced major eye strain attempting to play video games on the SHARP. As much as I hate the Philips, I’m going to have to continue to use it until I can find something I can afford to replace it. The Sharp TV is going to be returned.

This TV might be ok for television and movies, but I think you’ll find it difficult to watch if you play video games much at all.

5 Stars Great TV, great order experience
So far this TV is working out great. It is only a 60Hz display, but it still gives a great and really sharp image. I did not rate the sound since I have the whole thing connected to my surround system, and never use the sound on the TV. The TV display, and all the different modes, are very easy to setup.

The order went Amazon also went very easy. Around Seattle Amazon uses Pilot shipping, and they provided a great service. They were there when they were supposed to be, they came in and setup the TV to make sure everything was working. They even waited while I got the wall mount setup so we could actually mount the TV.

All in all a great experience.

4 Stars Great Value, Lots of connectivity options
I am very happy with the 40″ Aquos.

A great price, and when I compared the picture quality with the more expensive Sony, LG and Samsung alternatives, I could not tell the difference. I disagree with those who found issues with the picture and sound quality.

I also like the fact that it has so many connectivity options including old fashion Cable and antenna inputs which the aforementioned options cast aside.

I also saw negative comments about the time to power up. It is not instantaneous, about 10-15 seconds. But I’ve seen similar delays on other HDTV sets. I can live with it. What bothers me a bit is the delay in switching channels, a couple of seconds. This seems a bit slower than other HDTVs I’ve used.

One last thing. If you want to wall mount, be sure to find one that will accept 16″x16″. The Cheetah APTMM2B worked fine for me, whereas the Sanus MT25 is far to small.

5 Stars this is avery nice tv for the price i paid
i searched all other places for the best price amazon beat it by at least 150 to 200 dollars and sharp aqueos is one of the best pictures i could find i just don`t buy whaterver i do research first and this hi def i great

Sony BRAVIA W-series HDTVs combine the high performance of Full HD 1080p resolution with the smoother, more natural images enabled by exclusive Motionflow 120Hz technology.

5 Stars The BRAVIA ’sweet spot’.
I picked this TV because it has great features and is reasonably priced. It’s near the mid-point of the BRAVIA line, and has many of the important features of the XBR series TV’s, but at a more reasonable price. The 120mhz Motion Flow technology was a big selling point.

This unit is identical to the Bravia W4100 series, except the lower portion is BLACK instead of silver.

The full specifications of this model are available on the Sony Style website under ‘business’ sales, and their LCD TV listings.

I bought it from J&R as they are one of the few retailers who carry this model… HIGHLY recommend it. And totally worth the price!
Absolutly beautiful TV. 1080p and 120 Hz is an awsome combination. Highly recommend this TV. The extra cost for this is truly worth it.

5 Stars PC friendly, Great picture!
I replaced another brand with this set. The last brand had issues working with my pc. It was very fussy about settings for the display. With this set, everything is smooth. I was told LG’s are well suited for use with pc’s. I was hesitant, since this set was quite less expensive than the one it replaced. Well, the picture is just as good, and it certainly is more pc friendly. Can’t comment on the sound. I don’t listen to the TV speakers. 6 months and glitch free. It also has analog out,

which is a nice addition to the digital out. I like the remotes uncrowded layout. The power switch on the front of the TV is nice. You wouldn’t even realize it was there, and the power on glow is very dim, never drawing attention. Very pleased with my purchase.

5 Stars Was worried about purchase but Happy with outcome.
I’ve never ordered anything this large and expensive online before so I was nervous about my purchase. In the end everything turned out perfect, The TV arrived without any scratches, no dead pixels, or other defects. The “Pilot” delivery service sent 2 guys who were nice and set up the TV for me and made sure it worked.

About the TV: No complaints. The TV is everything it says it is in the above description so it’s all I expected it to be.

My only wish is that there was a headphone jack on this TV but there isn’t.

Little warning about what to expect with a 1080p HDTV. Before I did some research I assumed that everything I watched on this TV would be a big improvement over my previous 720p HDTV but I was wrong. The only things that are improvements over a 720p is 1080p content which is pretty much just blu-ray movies. Cable TV, Playstation 3 videogames, Xbox 360 videogames, are all 720p. And content that is native 720p looks best on a 720p tv. So I did notice that cable and video games looked slightly better on my previous 720p tv but Blu-ray movies looked best on this 1080p TV.

Over all I am very satisfied with my purchase and recommend this TV.

5 Stars Great TV!
I purchased this TV after my long time RCA 32″ tired out. Initially, I was going to purchase a different LG 50″ model, but after viewing the picture for some time, I realized that paying the $200 extra was worth every dime.

Firstly, set up is a breeze! Secondly, the picture and clarity is amazing! I love this tv, and I know that you will love it, too!
