Sharp AQUOS LC32LE700UN 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV

Sharp AQUOS LC32LE700UN 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV

With the introduction of the LC32LE700UN, Sharp combines its legendary AQUOS LCD panel technology with a newly developed, proprietary Full Array LED backlight system to create picture quality that is second to none. The LC32LE700UN illustrates Sharp’s LCD technology leadership while also demonstrating its LED engineering advantages. Sharp’s Ultra Brilliant LED system illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels and enables significant environmental benefits such as longer life expectancy, no heavy metals and lower power consumption. At the same time, the new XGen LCD Panel utilizes an ingeniously devised pixel design that permits more light to pass through even while minimizing light leakage, with the result being the deepest black levels that AQUOS has ever achieved. Overall, the LC32LE700UN shows that with Sharp, it’s not just LED… it’s AQUOS LED.

5 Stars Buy It
This is a wonderful TV. The picture is outstanding and the Home Theater Store in Houston not only came up with an outstanding price but excellent service. Try to buy from this store. They are the best.

Yes, the tuner is a little slow but 99% of us are going to use this set with HDMI sources like a HD cable or Satellite box - right? No flaws in the display but you have to open the little door on the remote and find the A/V mode that suits your environment. This set has a huge number of “knobs to turn” as far as setting up the picture so be careful and find the mode and settings that you need. Once you get it set - it will blow you away.

Yes, the sound isn’t what you got out of the 250# “console” TV that you just replaced. It has small speakers because it’s a flat panel TV. They are all that way. So stop complaining and go buy yourself a little 5.1 channel sound system that has an optical input. Hook it to the optical output of this set and the Cable or Sat box (see below) and it will be the best show you have ever heard or seen. Better yet, go buy yourself one that has a DVD upconvert or Blue Ray DVD player in it. The LG LHT854 on Amazon is a good example (for less than $200). Buy your optical and HDMI cables here on Amazon too and save a lot of $$. All the hype you read about certain cables being better is wrong. They don’t need to be gold or start with “M”. Speaker cables don’t need to be big, fat and hard to work with. Unless you are running 2000 watts or more, 18 or 16 gauge wire is just fine. It’s all digital data so there is no way the optical or HDMA cable can effect the quality of the sound or video. Be sure to connect your optical sound cable from your cable or Sat box directly to your sound system so you don’t pick up a delay from the TV processing it. IF your sound system has only one optical input, buy an optical splitter/combiner on Amazon for a couple of dollars and combine the optical sources from the TV and cable or Sat box. This all works.

Sharp has taken the most appropriate road on LED backlighting in my view, simply replace the florescent system with proven technology that was developed for the laptop industry by leaders like Apple. It’s very bright and even.

Since writing the above review, I have become even more sold on this product. Sharp has a fairly small market share in this field so they try hard to support their users. They offer a program called Aquos Advantage. It includes 3 mo.of warranty extension and a newsletter with info on using their products. It also includes a REAL help line you can call to get help if you don’t understand something or can’t make a feature work. If you are new to HDTV this may be of value to you. They also have a Facebook page and are very responsive through that site. The bigger manufactures may have these contacts as well but Sharps people seem to care about each customer.

The other thing I have noticed is the quality of the graphics engine. I connected my 3 year old standard def (480P) DVD player to the set using the “component” connection and the picture is as good or better than from an HDMI-connected Up-convert player. This indicates that the graphics engine in this set is outstanding.

When you get yours, open the little door on the bottom of the remote control and check out the different preset video modes. You will find them very helpful as you try different sources or types of material.

3 Stars Great value if you can ignore its flaws.
Considering the technologies packed into this tv, its one of the better value among its class, if you can live with some of its flaws.

Positives: Very, very good picture quality after calibration. Blu-rays look especially stunning. Deep black, and very good black details.

Neutral: Slow tuner, changing analog and digital channels takes at least a couple of seconds. Average input lag. Using Guitar Hero 3 lag calibration tool, I was able to get 48 milisec in Game mode, and between 90 - 130 milisec in other modes.

Negative: Flashlighting. My tv came with 2 large spots, the size of my palm each. Reducing the backlight helps somewhat, but they’re clearly visible during dark scenes such as the cave scenes of Iron Man blu-ray.

Some recent Sharp panels had banding issues. This Genx panel supposedly corrected this problem. However, I’m disappointed to find out that it is still present at least on my tv.

I have an inch wide, faint verticle band on the left side of the screen. I didn’t detect this initially until watching the oil field burning scene in Baraka. Subsequently I noticed it came up during watching the US open, and Master and Commander. I can conclusively confirm that the banding is there with my tv when displaying a solid green jpeg. Again this banding is quite faint and very hard to detect, but once I did it’s very hard for me to ignore.

4 Stars Great Picture. Terrible Sound.
I was in desperate need of a 1080p 32″ HDTV that would fit into the existing entertainment cabinet in my living room, which is exactly 31″ wide. You’d be amazed at how difficult it is to find a 32″ LCD that meets that requirement. Most are around 31.5″, which is very close but just wouldn’t fit.

Long story short: The set has gorgeous picture quality. No complaints at all about that. Unfortunately, the speakers are extremely tinny and just plain awful. The limited audio controls in the setup menu allow you to adjust treble and bass. I wound up pulling treble almost all the way to the bottom to temper the scratchy highs, and then nudging bass up a bit. But don’t turn the bass up too high, or the speakers will distort during loud noises. The best I can get it still sounds far worse than the 20 year-old standard-def set that this is replacing. This TV really requires the use of a separate audio system. In my case, that means I’m going to have to find a soundbar that will also fit my cabinet. I hadn’t planned on that.

The television is fairly easy to set up. My only disappointment there is that the set only offers a 4:3 pillarbox mode on standard-def input signals. HD input signals are locked to 16:9. Because the upconverting DVD/Blu-ray player I plan to use with this TV doesn’t offer a pillarbox mode either, I’m going to have to train my wife to set the player for 480p output whenever she wants to watch her beloved Gilmore Girls DVDs, and then set it back to 1080p afterwards. Or else she’ll have to watch them stretched, which neither of us finds acceptable. That’s going to be a big nuisance (with a long learning curve, undoubtedly). Why don’t TV manufacturers enable full aspect ratio control on both SD and HD signals?

The set’s a little expensive. But, again, gorgeous picture. I’m happy with the purchase overall, despite these caveats.

4 Stars Good Picture But Dark
We had a service rep from Sharp come out to look at the tv because the picture was so dark. He changed the display settings but otherwise said there was nothing that he could do. So I was curious what the electronic big box store had there displays set on. Basically the same thing: BACKLIGHT +14, CONTRAST +30, BRIGHTNESS 0, TINT 0, SHARPNESS +10. The salesperson at the big box store said that they have to reset all their display TVs higher than the factory settings because the pictures are dark. Huh(?) So I don’t know. We like the sharpness of the picture for most TV that we watch, but some night seens on this TV are hard to make out because they are too dark. Turning up the brightness just washes out the day seens.

5 Stars No flashlighting, No banding. GREAT VALUE.
It’s been about a month now owning this TV and I am generally very happy with my purchase. In almost all aspects its just a wonderful TV and I think it’s certainly a no brainer in the current LED market. Here’s what I’ve found out about my new Sharp TV:

Pros:

It’s got the blacks you want. Plain and simple. Definitely impressive stuff compared to my other two LCD’s in the house.

Nothing dead, nothing stuck, no flashlighting, and no banding. Another reviewer mentioned these problems but from what I have experienced and what I have heard from others this is a near non existent problem.

Deep customization for adjusting hue, saturation, tint etc etc allowing for really fine tuning. Personally this has been more of a con but its only because I’m too cheap to pay for calibration.

Great, vibrant colors in general with a picture that has “Pop”.

Cons:

The included remote really isn’t that great. I don’t enjoy the buttons themselves nor the layout. Of the Phillips, Sanyo, and Toshiba’s I have used recently I would say this isn’t the worst but not as nearly as good as the Toshiba’s. Whatever, not much of a con but it’s true. You can always use a universal.

As good as the colors are…your gonna need some calibrating to get this one right. I am still trying to get what I want out of this guy but I’m positive it’ll work out in the long run. Mainly it’s an issue with flesh tones.

The speakers are honestly pretty poor. Even compared to my Phillips and Sanyo LCD’s these speakers just have a bit of a tinny sound. Not a huge deal but this is where I have knock half a star off on my overall review.

No matter what, this is a winning product. Highly recommended…especially in the 32″ market. GREAT VALUE. ~4.5 STARS / 5

4 Stars An excellent alternative to an HTPC
I just got my Egreat EG-R1 through a local shop.

Some feedback…

I use an external Buffalo 250GB USB HDD formatted to NTFS.

It works with .mp4 h264, .rmvb, .ogm, .avi, .mkv, divx, xvid encoded video files.

It even worked with .wav audio. In one (out of two) .mp4 h264 file, seems the subtitles where being displayed out of sync, that is not the case when played on my HTPC. The PQ however was excellent specially with the .mkv files at the shop’s HDTV.

However, was not happy with the PQ (looked like a pixelplus enhanced image - yuck) of that same .mp4 h264 file when displayed at the shop’s HDTV, but at home it looks excellent on an old CRT TV though via composite. My HTPC rendered that same file beautifully on my HDTV.

At home, this same problematic .mp4 file (PQ and subtitle problem) has been rendered perfectly using the EG-R1 and my HDTV. I didn’t change anything (firmware).

On a quick .avi (paused video frame) test at the same timecode using my HDTV, EG-R1 (via component, HDMI), HTPC (via DVI-VGA), seems EG-R1 component was giving me the best PQ (more natural) followed closely by the EG-R1 HDMI then the HTPC via DVI-VGA, go figure. Seems I need to adjust my HTPC settings.

On another quick test .mp4 h264 (paused video frame) test at the same time code, the EG-R1 HDMI gave the best and sharpest image, followed closely by the HTPC DVI-VGA then a far third by EG-R1 component.

The EG-R1 might have some issues with .ogm-xvid files. When a scene pans from say left to right…it sort of skips (a video stutter if you like), but the audio is fine. Watching it makes me dizzy, it is noticeable. The same file works fine on an HTPC. Sometimes, you would need to load the video twice inorder for audio to work.

It doesn’t look like an internal drive (2.5″ or 3.5″) can fit in due to the large heat sink inside the unit.

The unit does get hot…not sure if additional cooling is needed.

Overall I am satisfied with the EG-R1 (almost bought a generic/unknown brand HDD player at another local shop for the about same price that couldn’t even work well with an external USB HDD).

I just hope it doesn’t burn-out from the heat

I also like the fact you can adjust the subtitle font size and color, and choose audio/subtitle languages via the remote.

If you decide to upgrade the firmware like I did, just download it from Egreat, extract it, and put the .img in the root directory of your USB device. Go to setup/system, do the upgrade twice (first time nothing happens), the unit will take over from there.

EDIT Nov 20:

I have tried using the EG-R1’s coaxial and HDMI to my receiver and 720p/1080i projector. I must say, it gave an excellent AQ and PQ. I also like the fact that extremely long filenames are displayed by the EG-R1, it scrolls them automatically from left to right instead of concatenating them. It also has a preview, just highlight the video file while still in the select menu, and the highlighted file is played by the EG-R1 on a smaller window next to it.. neat feature. So far, from the tests I have made, I would say the EG-R1 has trouble playing only less than 1% of all the videos I have collected for the past 3-4 years and I have about 2+Terra Bytes worth. It also played the DVD backups I have made using DVD decrypter, all you need is to play the .IFO file. I can also confirm that it did not work with .AVI files encoded using FFDS. The video files I have for testing are no larger than 720p 4.5GB, so I cannot confirm how well the EG-R1 would work with extremely large 1080p 10-30GB video files.

To Egreat makers: The case, though made of nice black aluminum, really looks like an electronics project for a high school, and I don’t know if this would work, but what would it take to upload an existing codec that someone made that does all formats (like klite codec) into an Egreat’s flash memory for it to work as well as an HTPC?

I am [still] very satisfied with the EG-R1 despite the minor shortcomings. Good value for the money.

5 Stars Feature Loaded, Easy to Use Player
I am addicted to foreign movies, but watching them on my computer has become unbearable. My friends from Europe recommended the player to me. I am very happy with the purchase, especially after discovering that it plays all Sony AVCHD home videos as well as all my pictures and music!ONMP-EGreat EG-R1 HDMI Network Media Player

5 Stars Great deal, phenomenol picture quality
I just purchased this tv last week and although it wasn’t 120HZ i just couldn’t justify the extra couple hundred dollars just to get that one last feature.

Pretty easy to set up…well, my dad set it up LOL! We tinkered with the tint, contrast, brightness setting for about 5 minutes to get the look we wanted b/c those factory default settings are bunk. As soon as it was good to go we flipped to an HD channel and watched a football game with such mind blowing clarity I swear it was better than being at the game.

I love this tv, if I could I would marry it and have it’s 19 inch portable babies. Ok, not really but you know what I’m saying. I just wish ALL my HD channels were 1080 b/c now that I have a great tv i can really tell the difference between 480, 720, and 1080.

The only downside is the picture quality is so good I don’t like watching my old DVDs in 480 anymore and now I’m dying to buy a Blue-Ray so I can get the maximum impact of the sharpness and clarity.

2 Stars If you plan to use the TV for XBOX/PS3, this is NOT the TV for you!!
I purchased this TV to replace a 42″ LCD Philips TV that I have and really dislike. For one, I think Philips makes junk. The tv has horrible sound quality, the cabinet is unattractive, the HDMI engine sometimes is tempermental and needs to be unplugged to reset, and Philips customer service is among the worst. Needless to say, I was anxious to get rid of the Philips and go with the Sharp. Also, I wanted to upgrade from 720p and 1080i to a full 1080p.

Folks, this Sharp TV had HORRIBLE picture quality on the PS3 and XBOX. I tried numerous settings for the contrast, sharpness, brightness, et cetera. I experienced major eye strain attempting to play video games on the SHARP. As much as I hate the Philips, I’m going to have to continue to use it until I can find something I can afford to replace it. The Sharp TV is going to be returned.

This TV might be ok for television and movies, but I think you’ll find it difficult to watch if you play video games much at all.

5 Stars Great TV, great order experience
So far this TV is working out great. It is only a 60Hz display, but it still gives a great and really sharp image. I did not rate the sound since I have the whole thing connected to my surround system, and never use the sound on the TV. The TV display, and all the different modes, are very easy to setup.

The order went Amazon also went very easy. Around Seattle Amazon uses Pilot shipping, and they provided a great service. They were there when they were supposed to be, they came in and setup the TV to make sure everything was working. They even waited while I got the wall mount setup so we could actually mount the TV.

All in all a great experience.

4 Stars Great Value, Lots of connectivity options
I am very happy with the 40″ Aquos.

A great price, and when I compared the picture quality with the more expensive Sony, LG and Samsung alternatives, I could not tell the difference. I disagree with those who found issues with the picture and sound quality.

I also like the fact that it has so many connectivity options including old fashion Cable and antenna inputs which the aforementioned options cast aside.

I also saw negative comments about the time to power up. It is not instantaneous, about 10-15 seconds. But I’ve seen similar delays on other HDTV sets. I can live with it. What bothers me a bit is the delay in switching channels, a couple of seconds. This seems a bit slower than other HDTVs I’ve used.

One last thing. If you want to wall mount, be sure to find one that will accept 16″x16″. The Cheetah APTMM2B worked fine for me, whereas the Sanus MT25 is far to small.

5 Stars this is avery nice tv for the price i paid
i searched all other places for the best price amazon beat it by at least 150 to 200 dollars and sharp aqueos is one of the best pictures i could find i just don`t buy whaterver i do research first and this hi def i great

Sony KDL-46W4150 - 46″ BRAVIA LCD TV - 120Hz - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV

Sony KDL-46W4150 - 46″ BRAVIA LCD TV - 120Hz - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV

Sony BRAVIA W-series HDTVs combine the high performance of Full HD 1080p resolution with the smoother, more natural images enabled by exclusive Motionflow 120Hz technology.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars The BRAVIA ’sweet spot’.
I picked this TV because it has great features and is reasonably priced. It’s near the mid-point of the BRAVIA line, and has many of the important features of the XBR series TV’s, but at a more reasonable price. The 120mhz Motion Flow technology was a big selling point.

This unit is identical to the Bravia W4100 series, except the lower portion is BLACK instead of silver.

The full specifications of this model are available on the Sony Style website under ‘business’ sales, and their LCD TV listings.

I bought it from J&R as they are one of the few retailers who carry this model… HIGHLY recommend it. And totally worth the price!

5 Stars Beautiful
Absolutly beautiful TV. 1080p and 120 Hz is an awsome combination. Highly recommend this TV. The extra cost for this is truly worth it.

5 Stars PC friendly, Great picture!
I replaced another brand with this set. The last brand had issues working with my pc. It was very fussy about settings for the display. With this set, everything is smooth. I was told LG’s are well suited for use with pc’s. I was hesitant, since this set was quite less expensive than the one it replaced. Well, the picture is just as good, and it certainly is more pc friendly. Can’t comment on the sound. I don’t listen to the TV speakers. 6 months and glitch free. It also has analog out,

which is a nice addition to the digital out. I like the remotes uncrowded layout. The power switch on the front of the TV is nice. You wouldn’t even realize it was there, and the power on glow is very dim, never drawing attention. Very pleased with my purchase.

5 Stars Was worried about purchase but Happy with outcome.
I’ve never ordered anything this large and expensive online before so I was nervous about my purchase. In the end everything turned out perfect, The TV arrived without any scratches, no dead pixels, or other defects. The “Pilot” delivery service sent 2 guys who were nice and set up the TV for me and made sure it worked.

About the TV: No complaints. The TV is everything it says it is in the above description so it’s all I expected it to be.

My only wish is that there was a headphone jack on this TV but there isn’t.

Little warning about what to expect with a 1080p HDTV. Before I did some research I assumed that everything I watched on this TV would be a big improvement over my previous 720p HDTV but I was wrong. The only things that are improvements over a 720p is 1080p content which is pretty much just blu-ray movies. Cable TV, Playstation 3 videogames, Xbox 360 videogames, are all 720p. And content that is native 720p looks best on a 720p tv. So I did notice that cable and video games looked slightly better on my previous 720p tv but Blu-ray movies looked best on this 1080p TV.

Over all I am very satisfied with my purchase and recommend this TV.

5 Stars Great TV!
I purchased this TV after my long time RCA 32″ tired out. Initially, I was going to purchase a different LG 50″ model, but after viewing the picture for some time, I realized that paying the $200 extra was worth every dime.

Firstly, set up is a breeze! Secondly, the picture and clarity is amazing! I love this tv, and I know that you will love it, too!
